The State Bible

Designating the Bible an official state symbol is hardly a cool idea. But Alabama adopted a particular Bible that does have historic significance.

The State Bible was purchased for use by the Executive Department in 1853 and has been used in the inauguration of Alabama governors since that time. Jefferson Davis even used the State Bible when he took the oath of office as President of the provisional government of the Confederate States of America in 1861.
