Various dog breeds have been adopted as the official animal, mammal or “dog” by two countries (Japan and Israel), two Canadian provinces (Nova Scotia and Nunavut), and ten U.S. states: Alaska, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin.
